we taxi up to the runway, and get in line. start going, and I see an
air canada plane catching up on the next lane! I remember the pilot
revving the engines once, so I think we're racing. The air canada
plane passes us, and beats us off the ground, but we totally beat them
on height, and they veer off to the south. as we loop north, and
treasure island comes-into view, it hits me. I am *really* leaving. Not
just for a holiday, or even for a few months, I am *gone*. san francisco
is almost entirely covered with fog. twin peaks is covered and you can
barely see sutro tower. How very San Franciscan. Bittersweet, to say
the least.
the move: a disaster. I am a horrible planner, and should have done
what I threatened to do, and hired a moving company. it was stupid not
to. everything I care about is in my checked and carry on luggage
though. Some things will be shipped later, but its just some books and
dvds, etc.
I got to the airport about an hour before my flight left, checked in,
got through security (I have to remember that I have *two* laptops in my
carry ons), and got to the gate just in time to see them call first
class. Woo!
my email server is travelling with me, so anything you send will take a
little while to be delivered. No worries, because I already updated my
dns information, so it should just queue up with no issues.
I'll be arriving in Frankfurt at 14:50 local time on Sunday, which is
5:50am Pacific. Hopefully I can get my server hooked up that evening, and
let emails filter in while I sleep.
My laptop clock has been changed to CEST, and my server clock will be
changed when I get it installed.

when riding air india, what do they call "cattle class"? regardless,
its bullshit. thankfully, once we took off, most of the cabin quieted
down. tv is available, so the kids are nicely distracted by the pixar
flicks (thanks danimal!). apparently, the "flight status" part of their
entertainment system is down.
"Apache/2.0.24 Server at vsreve-330p-dsu-d2-1-1 Port 80" Interesting.
not willing to be too naughty on the plane, so no wifi sniffing or teh like.
I'm not a fan of LA, so I'm not going to miss it that much. I think the
flight tracking system being down will be a good thing, since I won't
know when I've left the US.
the lady in front of me has relaxed her seat to maximum annoyance, so
typing is hard, and I can't see the screen for either the laptop nor the
in-chair entertainment device. I'm considering rocking out to the ipod
until dinner, then sleeping as much as I can stand it.
"Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections
in /thales/apps/250paxgui/ai/thales/includes/config.php on line 28
Could not connect: Too many connections"
of course its not *this* group of passengers that I dislike on the
flight. its the 3x4x3 configuration of 747s! urk! this time, I'm
stuck in the middle of the middle row
. ppl weren't interested in
trading spaces, so I'm stuck here. at least its a small child, who
doesn't take up room, and so far has been super quiet (again, thank you
danimal). next time: upgrade or at least get an aisle seat. I don't
mind being close to the food tray, I know how to keep my elbows in. its
the simple act of "standing up" that I really enjoy. very useful during
those long flights.
the computer system on this plane is horrible. many of the buttons on
the remote don't do what they should, and *do* accept key presses while
they are in the side-leg-rest-holder thingy. which means if someone
shifts, and hits the light button, we're all doused with light. and the
call button gets pressed for a while, it keeps 'ding'-ing every 5
seconds. all you can do is wait for it to process the queue. flight
status is still hosed, and we've had the entire system reset a few
times.
I tried to sleep a few times, but it just wasn't happening. I'm not
surprised, I almost never sleep on planes anyways. between turbulence,
crappy chairs, and the fact that I can't actually get comfortable, it
ain't gonna happen.
I was actually able to get an hour or two. was woken up by the main
cabin lights being turned on, and the stewardesses coming through with
our breakfast. pastry, croissant, fruit, yoghurt. yum!
I am now in Hannover, just finished installing my server, and are now hungry and ready for bed. Hopefully I'll do those in the correct order
.
